Yes! All of our support is entirely free thanks to our funding from Arts Council England.

Yes. The Cultural Education Network offers free support for all schools and educational settings in England. This includes primary and secondary schools, specialist educational settings and colleges. We cannot offer support for schools in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland.

Our team of Cultural Education Specialists signpost to existing local and national partnerships and offers that support cultural education. This includes increasing awareness of Local Cultural Education Partnerships (LCEPs) and Music Education Hubs among teachers, freelance teaching artists and individuals working in cultural organisations. We also signpost to the work of National Portfolio Organisations and other creative and cultural organisations that support cultural education.

We’ve also worked closely with teachers, LCEPs, freelance teaching artists, and representatives from creative and cultural organisations across England to co-create our offer. We aim to support our shared ambition to champion cultural education. In the future, we hope to build upon our work with Music Education Hubs and we’re currently collaborating with the Arts Council’s Music Education team to discuss the best approach. We will also work with our Area teams to expand our knowledge of the cultural education support services available in place.

The idea for the Network came about because we were receiving a lot of requests for support from teachers on their Artsmark journeys who were working in isolation and didn’t know how to connect to local artists and organisations in their area. In 2024, we carried out a research and development exercise and engaged over 4,000 people in surveys and co-creation sessions to identify the needs and types of support structures that would be helpful for teachers, freelance teaching artists and staff from creative and cultural organisations. In March 2025, we launched with our one-to-one offer, the first phase of our programme. 

Absolutely. Sometimes, the Cultural Education Specialist helping you might decide that other members of the team would be suited to provide further support to you. In this case, they’ll handle bringing other Specialists into the conversation.

The Cultural Education Network is free to access for teachers, school leaders, freelance teaching artists and staff from creative and cultural organisations in England.

This includes schools of all levels and types, up to A-level or equivalent. We include early years, primary, secondary and sixth form colleges, in addition to specialist education settings.

Great question! The Cultural Education Network can provide you with ideas, actions and opportunities to help you develop your practice in cultural education. The Network offers free one-to-one advice sessions, at a time that suits you, delivered by a team of Cultural Education Specialists. Our goal is to improve access to professional development opportunities, signpost to existing offers and add value where it is most needed. 

Artsmark, accredited by Arts Council England, is the only award for arts and culture provision in England. It empowers teachers with the skills they need to embed arts, culture, and creativity across the whole curriculum, including extensive CPD from our partner, Goldsmiths, University of London.

Artsmark is open to primary, secondary, and special schools, as well as hospital schools, pupil referral units, youth offending teams, virtual schools, and sixth form colleges in England. The Cultural Education Network can help you prepare for and get started with your Artsmark journey.
